TRL

The first time I heard the screaming, my heart pounded and I immediately thought that a terrorist attack was underway. As I hurriedly looked left and right, I noticed that no one else seemed to be alarmed. I asked the guy next to me where the screaming was coming from. I must have looked frantic because he chuckled as he pointed toward the MTV building.
Standing out front were approximately 100 teenagers, who screamed in unison every few minutes. Looking back, it is funny how a group scream of joy can sound identical to a group scream of fear and terror.
The culprit is TRL which they film in the MTV building in a studio that is visible from the street. Every day around 4:00pm, hundreds of little girls gather to see whatever star happens to be on the show that day. Apparently Usher is on the show today. I was forced to look that up because these young girls are not taking a break between screams. Today, in his honor, they have been offering one collective, rolling, scream for the last hour.
Even on the 19th floor of my office, high above the hustle and bustle of Times Square, I can hear the muffled screams from below.

I don’t know how other schools do Early Interview Week (EIW) or On Campus Recruiting (OCI), but here at NYU, we rank who we want to interview with and then an algorithm crunches the numbers and assigns interviews without taking grades into account. The idea being that NYU students are all talented and capable. To this end, NYU also does not calculate class rank and will not release transcripts without the consent of the student. So, essentially, when you walk into an interview, the firm has your resume and that’s it. You must bring your transcript with you. I thought this law firm’s attempt to get my grades before the interview was priceless.
Dear Interviewees:
Thanks for your interest in BigLaw LLP. We look forward to meeting you on August 18th as part of NYU’s Early Interview Week. In the interest of getting to know you a little better, kindly email a copy of your law school transcript to NYRecruiting@BigLaw.com. Thanks!
