On Getting the “Bad One” Out

September 9th, 2007 by Mike

I didn’t see the game, but it sounds like it was an ominous start to the Browns season. If I wasn’t such a fan, the antics below probably would have been hilarious.

The Browns imploded shortly after kickoff.

On their first fourth down, newly signed Cleveland punter Paul Ernster let the snap slip through his hands before scrambling to get off a 15-yarder.

Cleveland was whistled for four infractions — two holds, an illegal formation and having a man downfield — on the play and the Steelers scored moments later when Roethlisberger hit Hines Ward on a 5-yarder.

The romp was on.

“I’d like to think we got the bad one out of our system,” said Browns wide receiver Joe Jurevicius.

I appreciate Joe’s optimism, but we’re probably heading for the “bad 16.” It is only one game but barring Brady coming in and inspiring the kind of luck Vince Young did in Nashville last year we are in for a looooooooong season. (I’m not even confident we’ll beat Oakland - which means we may be fighting to keep the Cowboys from having the #1 overall pick in the draft next year.)

I pray they don’t put Brady in for Brady’s sake. Nothing worse than watching a rookie QB get slaughtered… They’ll Carson that kid this year… 3-13

Just as painful to watch was Baltimore’s start against Cincinnati last night. 20-27 and they’re bringing Boller off the bench for the final drive….? Ed Reed’s gonna need to pull twice the magic plays out of his ass to get them in the playoffs this year. Lord help us all.
